Mural painted on Mecca Bingo hall in Ashford town centre

An eye-catching piece of art has appeared on a derelict building in a town centre.

Last week, artist Aimee Godden started work on the large angel wing mural in Ashford's Lower High Street.

New pictures show the completed mural, which has been painted over the wooden hoardings that formed the main entrance to Mecca Bingo.

Work to recreate the colourful design - which features the site's history as an ex-Odeon cinema - was completed last week.

Ms Godden, who sells crafts in Made in Ashford, has been working with Loveashford's town centre regeneration team to drive the project forward.

The scheme is inspired by the Snowdog Art Trail which took place in the town last year.

The team hopes to transform other sites across the town if the project is well-received.

The public are encouraged to take pictures of the artwork and use the social media hashtag #SpreadYourWingsinAshford

Last month, council bosses cordoned off the historic building to stop vandals climbing onto the roof.

Ashford Borough Council revealed plans to redevelop the site earlier this year and transform it into a multi-million pound leisure complex.
