Family escape flat blaze

A young family fled their home after a bedroom burst into flames.

The couple and children got out of the flat at Martello Road,
Folkestone, after the blaze broke out at about 11.50am yesterday (March
30).

The bedroom was destroyed and firefighters had to tackle the flames
wearing breathing apparatus and using two hosereel jets.

A Folkestone Fire Station spokesman said: “The family, which we
believe had three children, were all out of the property by the time
we arrived and unhurt.

“But the bedroom was 100% damaged by fire and there was slight smoke
damage to the rest of property.”

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Two fire engines were called out, two from Folkestone and one from
Hythe, and crews were at the scene for two hours.
