Flood alerts for Folkestone, Ashford, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells

Flood alerts have been issued across the county with residents being told to prepare for overflows and avoid low lying ground.

Communities in Folkestone, Ashford, Maidstone, Headcorn, Snodland, Sandling and Tunbridge Wells are among the areas affected.

People living near the River Bourne from Hadlow to East Peckham, including Golden Green and Little Mill have also been included in flood alerts by the Environment Agency (EA).

“Flooding is possible in these areas,” said the EA advisory.

“Monitor local water levels and weather conditions and avoid using low lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding.

“During industrial action this message has been automatically issued based on rising river or tidal levels.”

EA guidance for residents of the towns and cities at risk of flooding includes making sure you have a bag ready with vital items like insurance documents and medications, in case you need to leave your home.

“You should also check you know how to turn off your gas, electricity and water mains supplies.”

“And plan how you’ll move your family and pets to safety.”
