Folkestone Invicta’s new chairman Lynn Woods says the Ryman League Division 1 South leaders are resigned to losing 10 points after entering a Creditors Voluntary Agreement and it could be implemented next week.

Retired businessman Mr Woods, who lives at Hawkinge and celebrates his 60th birthday next week, has supported the club since his father took him to watch them play Burnley in 1958, a match which officially switched on the floodlights at Cheriton Road. An avid follower of both teams since, he used to be a season-ticket holder at Turf Moor.

Ryman League chairman Alan Turvey revealed that Invicta’s situation will be formally considered and dealt with at the next Board Meeting on Thursday, February 25.

Mr Woods said: "We are still waiting to hear from the league but it’s a given we will be deducted the points and an issue we are not losing any sleep over.

"I want to provide a stable enduring business platform for the club and, as I told the shareholders at the meeting, to me it’s not about 10 points it’s about 10 years.

"We have far reaching plans for the club, including changing its constitution but it’s complicated and won’t happen overnight.

"We cut our cloth accordingly well over a year ago and now have a group of united and very committed young players who are enjoying the benefits of continuity. It’s a message to other clubs who import players from distance."

Invicta travel to Sittingbourne on Saturday, and with James Everitt recovered from an ankle injury, Cugley is set to name an unchanged starting line-up at Bourne Park.
