A four-vehicle pile-up closed Maidstone Road in Charing, near Ashford, this afternoon.

Emergency services were called at 3.50pm to reports a grey VW Passat, a white Fiat 500, a white Kia Soul and a white Nissan Cabstar were involved in a collision near the the entrance to a petrol station, police said.

The road was closed between Hook Lane and the High Street, according to Kent Highways, which advised people to approach with caution and allow extra time for journeys.

A woman who was driving one of the cars was taken to the William Harvey Hospital with neck and foot injuries and a female passenger was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries.

The road was re-opened about 7pm.
