A police helicopter was called in as officers search for a suspect in Ashford this evening.

The helicopter was spotted circling the town, but later tweeted the area was clear.

The search began just before 8pm when residents in Loudon Way called police to report a man damaging cars.

The man reportedly left the scene on a bicycle.

A police sokesman said: "Officers attended to make enquiries, and the National Police Air Service helicopter was dispatched to assist with a search for the man.

"The man has not been located and enquiries are ongoing."
