Car fire closes Monument Way, on Orbital Park, Ashford

A road on a busy retail park closed following a car fire.

The Mercedes caught fire in Monument Way Ashford, on Orbital Park this afternoon.

Emergency crews including police attended the scene and closed the road while they dealt with the incident.

Stagecoach bus company said were unable to serve the areas of Newtown and South Willesborough due to the road closure.

Police said: "Kent Police received a report of a car on fire in Monument Way, Ashford at around 2.40pm on Saturday, July 20.

"Officers attended the scene where the road is closed to assist Kent Fire and Rescue Service."

The road has now re-opened.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire crews were called at 2.42pm to a Mercedes that was fully involved in fire.

"Two fire engines were sent and crews wore breathing apparatus and used hose reel jets to tackle the blaze.

"Kent Police were also in attendance for traffic control purposes. Firefighters had left the scene shortly after 3.30pm."
