House evacuated after moped fire

A house was evacuated when smoke from a moped fire poured inside the property.

The blaze broke out at Somerset Road, Ashford, at around midnight on Tuesday and firefighters used breathing apparatus to deal with the incident.

Ashford station firefighter Mike King said: “The moped had been at the rear of the property and smoke got inside and logged the premises.

“There had been three to four residents but most got outside by the time we came.”

Two fire crews were at the scene for an hour, the moped was destroyed, the house had smoke damage.

Firefighters are investigating but believe the blaze was likely to have been accidental. Nobody was hurt.
