Residents reported being startled by a loud crash at about 10pm last night when the yellow Ford van mounted the pavement at the junction between Beecholme Drive and Rectory Way.

A witness reported seeing bricks and shrapnel scattered around the road, with some having hit parked cars nearby.

"We looked outside after hearing the crash and saw two men running away from the scene," they added.

"There was debris everywhere and a few of our neighbours' cars got hit. Police and dog units arrived to search for the driver shortly afterwards."

The vehicle, which was taxed but had an expired MOT, was left with the engine running and lights on.
