Hythe Town’s management team are wasting no time in their pursuit of new players as they prepare to launch an assault on the Ryman League Division 1 South play-offs next season.

Boss Scott Porter and assistant Clive Cook are already looking at possible additions to the squad at Reachfields, while the latter’s son, 20-goal midfielder Dave (pictured), is already attracting interest from bigger clubs.

Cook Snr said: "We always like to do our business early. We have targeted two or three new players, and are already active in the market.

"Four players are on contract – Nick Reeves, Nick Barnes, Taser Hassan and Ronnie Dolan – but everyone wants to stay."

Hythe were disappointed to fade out of play-off contention in March, and Cook says finishing there next season will be their first objective.

He said: "We have reflected on why we missed out this time, and it was because we dropped too many silly points. Scott and I have learned a hell of a lot about this league, which will stand us in good stead for the future."

The club will hold their annual presentation night on Saturday, before the players leave for a four-day break in Ibiza beginning on Sunday week, paid for by club fines across the season.
