Icy conditions bring road chaos

Country roads in Ashford suffered a rash of accidents this morning caused by icy conditions.

The ice was thought to have form through a combination of a sharp drop in temperatures on wet ground after heavy rain yesterday.

A man driving a Ford Mondeo left the road and ended up in a field on the A28 at High Halden at 7pm.

A second car went into a hedge in a separate incident at the same scene. Nobody was injured in either case.

Meanwhile a Toyota Corrolla left the road, rolled up a bank and knocked down a telegraph pole on the A251 at Challock at about 7.20am.

One side of the road was blocked and an ambulance crew attended but the woman driver was not thought to be seriously hurt.

Also this morning a 58-year-old man suffered a head injury when his car crashed into a telegraph pole at Heath Road, Appledore.

His injury was not thought to be serious and the telegraph pole was not knocked over.
