Guitarists Dave Strugnell and Jenni Tilson to perform at White Hart festival

There may be a 59-year age difference but a grandad and grand-daughter will be performing together at a pub’s beer and music festival.

Guitarists Dave Strugnell and his grand-daughter Jenni Tilson will take to the stage as a duo at the festival at The White Hart, Newenden.

The event is being held over the weekend of July 25 and 26, with the pair - who call themselves ‘im and ‘er - will be performing in the 1.45pm to 2.15pm slot on the Sunday.

Although they have both played to live audiences in the past, this will be the first time they have taken to the stage together.

Dave, 74, a well known and much loved regular at the pub, has played the bass guitar since he taught himself at the age of 16.

He then went on to spend 45 years performing with many semi-professional bands.

His musical passion was and still is heavily influenced by blues guitarists and vocalists.

This has clearly rubbed off on Jenni, 15, who first picked up a guitar at the age of eight and will be the singer during their joint performance.

She says that even though she’s inspired by contemporary artists such as Ed Sheeran if she could aspire to play like anyone it would be her grandad.

They will be mixing songs from the modern day with songs from back in the day at the festival.

Jenni said: “This will be the first time me and my grandad have ever performed to anyone as a double act.

"It’s going to be a special day for us because we both have a strong passion for music” - Jenni Tilson

Dave said: “We’ll be doing a mixture of Motown type songs and modern stuff.

"We have a bit of trepidation as we haven’t played together in public before.”

The beer and music festival at the pub in Rye Road is free to attend and will raise money for Demelza Hospice Care for Children and Cancer Research UK.
