Actor Alexander Arnold, from Ashford, stars in Danny Boyle's latest film Yesterday

An actor who hails from Kent rubbed shoulders with stars Lily James and Ed Sheeran for his latest film role.

Alexander Arnold, 26, from Ashford, stars in Danny Boyle's latest blockbuster Yesterday.

Written by Richard Curtis, the romantic comedy centres around musician Jack, who, after an accident, finds himself the only person who remembers the Beatles.

He then becomes famous taking credit for writing and performing their songs.

The film, which is out in cinemas now, stars Himesh Patel, from Eastenders, as Jack, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again actor Lily James as Ellie and Ed Sheeran as himself.

Alexander, who attended both Norton Knatchbull School and Highworth Grammar School in Ashford, plays Gavin who assists Jack with the creation of his album.

The actor, who was also a member of Ashford Youth Theatre, had his first major role in E4’s teenage drama Skins, where he played Rich Hardbeck.

His other TV work includes roles in A Mother's Son, Poldark, Vera and Death in Paradise.

And Yesterday is not Alexender's first film role - he has previously featured in The Salvation and David Brent: Life on the Road.

He is currently starring in Bitter Wheat, a new play written and directed by David Mamet, at the Garrick Theatre.

Yesterday is now showing in UK cinemas.
