John ‘Webbo’ Webster, the co-presenter of kmfm’s Ashford breakfast show, is set to go head to head with his mentor.

Chris Evans takes over from Terry Wogan on BBC Radio Two at the end of the year, meaning that Webbo, who co-hosts the kmfm breakfast show with Kirstyn Read, will be broadcasting at the same time as his good friend.

Webbo said: “It’s bizarre! I wouldn’t say it’s direct competition - we’ve both got jobs to do.”

Webbo briefly co-hosted the Virgin breakfast show with Chris Evans - who gave him his nickname - and had previously read the sports reports, after meeting Mr Evans while working as a TV cameraman.

He even accompanied him and then wife Billie Piper on holiday to Las Vegas.

Webbo added: “He has always been the Yoda in my life when it comes to radio.

“He taught me to never act but always be yourself or people will see through you.”

For Webbo, who remains in regular contact with Mr Evans, it’s horses for courses.

He said: “The call of that radio station was for him but I’m happy with my lot!”

You can hear Kirstyn and Webbo’s breakfast show every weekday on 107.6fm
