An HGV driver is still fighting for his life today after two lorries crashed on the A20.

The 55-year-old was airlifted to hospital after the serious smash near Capel-Le-Ferne yesterday morning.

Kent Police said he remains in a critical condition in the Royal London Hospital.

He was driving a white DAF French-registered vehicle when there was a crash with an orange Scania lorry at about 7.50am on the London-bound carriageway.

The 60-year-old driver of the Hungarian-registered lorry was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has been released on police bail until August 5 pending further investigation.

Kent Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

PC Jamie Woodhams, from the Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This is a busy stretch of road and I would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the vehicles collide."

The carriageway was closed until 6pm while investigations were carried out, the lorries removed and a diesel spill cleared.
