A sex fiend who subjected a girl to disgusting abuse is today starting a 14-year prison sentence.

Royce Mackett, of The Green, in Lydd, had sex with the girl and forced her into a bathtub where he urinated over her.

The 53-year-old had denied the charges against him, but was found guilty of two indecent assaults and having sex with a girl under the age of 13.

Canterbury Crown Court heard Mackett (pictured right) abused the girl 19 years ago.

Judge Adele Williams told him he had been convicted on "clear and compelling evidence of sexual offences" against his victim, who cannot be named.

"You have absolutely no insight into your behaviour," Judge Williams said. "You have shown no remorse or have any regard for your victim.

"I have no doubt that you pose a risk to the public in the future."

Mackett twice assaulted the girl. On one occasion he forced her to perform a sex act on him and on another he had sex with her and urinated on her after he told her to get into the bathtub.

Mackett looked away from Judge Williams and shook his head as she addressed him.

The court heard his criminal past dates back to 1975. His previous convictions include vehicle crime, dishonesty, battery, public order offences and the racially aggravated harassment of a police officer in Wales.

Mackett was also made subject of a sexual offences prevention order for the rest of his life.

DCI Andrew Pritchard, from Kent Police, said: "I would like to pay tribute to the bravery and determination of the victim, firstly in coming forward to talk about the horrific abuse she had suffered as a child and also for the courage with which she has faced a trial lasting four weeks.

"Our officers are trained to investigate cases such as these which can be complex and difficult due to the period of time that has elapsed between the offences being committed and being reported to the police.

"But however long that period, we will fully investigate any reports of abuse as well as support a victim through a very difficult period in her or his life."
