Philip Mathews named as M20 bridge fall victim in Ashford

A 62-year-old who fell to his death from a motorway bridge has been named.

Philip Mathews died at the scene after falling onto the M20 from the A28 Canterbury Road in Ashford on Tuesday.

Floral tributes appeared at the scene last week after Mr Mathews - who was from the town - died from his injuries on the motorway.

The coastbound carriageway between Junctions 9 and 10 was closed for three hours on Tuesday afternoon while emergency services worked at the scene.

Officers briefly closed the road in both directions to allow an air ambulance to land just before 4pm.
