Flash flooding as torrential rain lashes Kent

A lane of the M20 will be shut all day as torrential downpours across the county cause another morning of rush-hour chaos.

There is very slow traffic on the M20 London-bound between Ashford (Fougeres Way, Junction nine on the A20) and Maidstone (Ashford Road around Leeds Castle and Maidstone services) due to emergency drain repairs – lane one of two will be shut all day.

Repairs will continue tonight.

This comes after a warnings were issued stating that conditions are expected to be "atrocious" throughout the county.

Flooding has also caused queuing traffic on the A2 in both directions in Bexley (Southwold Road/Black Prince Interchange) with congestion to the M25.

There was very slow traffic due to the weather on the A2 London-bound before the Northfleet and Ebbsfleet turn-off (B262 Hall Road).

This caused congestion in the area, and traffic has now returned to normal.

The Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells has reportedly flooded, as well as All Saints Avenue in Margate.

Last night, more flood alerts were put in place as a yellow warning came into force across Kent.
