Several residents checked their Ring Doorbell footage on Monday after hearing of the reports.

Two neighbours on Essella Road captured footage of a person in a hoodie trying to steal two cars which were parked on driveways along the road.

One resident shared footage of a person sitting in their car trying to get it started at 1am on Monday.

The person was wearing a hoodie with the hood up, a mask, and gloves but failed to get the car started, so left after about five minutes.

Another resident saw someone of the same appearance suspiciously trying to open their neighbour's car at a similar time.

Police received a report that a navy Volkswagen was stolen from outside a property on Essella Road between 6pm on Sunday and just before 11am on Monday.

Luckily, the VW has since been found in a car park, but belongings inside have been taken.

Police think the owner's key was cloned and the car was stolen to sell on, adding that it is very rare cars are found.

The other car was stolen from a driveway in Birling Road.

The burnt orange Hyundai i20 Sport was later found abandoned.

These car thefts come just over a week after two cars in Mersham had the windows smashed.

Earlier this month, police received a report that a handbag had been stolen from a car parked at Mersham le Hatch deer park on Saturday, July 2.

A stone had been thrown through the window to smash it and access a handbag inside.

Then on Sunday July 3, police received another report of a similar incident that had happened in Church Road in Mersham between 1pm and 3.40pm.
