Man treated in hospital after house fire in Aldington

A man was taken to hospital after a large fire at a house in Aldington.

Fire crews and three engines from Ashford, Aldington and Dymchurch were called to a blaze in the roof of a the timber-framed detached building in Roman Road at 3.36am today.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the loft to tackle the flames. It took them about an hour to extinguish the fire.

Watch manager Kevin Surridge said: "It was quite a serious fire but it was contained in the roof space. There was quite extensive damage in the loft."

The two occupants had left the building before crews arrived. A man suffered a burn to his hand was taken to the William Harvey Hospital.

The cause of the blaze in unknown.
