Ashford mum shocked to find thick blue plastic inside chicken dipper from Iceland

A worried mum has sounded the alarm after discovering plastic inside an Iceland chicken dipper she fears could have choked her children.

Katie Newman, from Ashford, says her husband sank his teeth into the crispy strip only to discover an inedible hard chunk which resembled a piece of Tupperware

The mother-of-two says her husband had already eaten a few of the nuggets before finding the item, which appeared blue and just over an inch long.

Describing the moment they made the concerning discovery, she said: “We both thought ‘erm, what is that?’

“It was thick like a piece of Tupperware.”

Mrs Newman has since contacted Iceland and posted online about the incident to let others who may have bought the same product know.

“I got an email reply saying they will get back to me soon,” she said.

“It's put me off the product but not Iceland as I know it's the factory, not them.

“But I rarely shop in Iceland, it's normally just a quick and convenient option.

“I’m just glad our children hadn't been eating them, they are five and three and could have choked on it.”

She went on to explain that now she has the inconvenience of having to buy more but from a different store as it is a safe food for her son who has Autism spectrum disorder.

“I'm going to have to spend more money to replace them,” Mrs Newman said.

“But I'm just glad he didn't eat the one with plastic because he would have choked and not noticed it.”

Mrs Newman bought the dippers from the Iceland store in Ashford High Street and has since thrown the rest of the packet in the bin.

A spokesperson for the supermarket said: "Our customer care department is in touch with the customer regarding the issue and a full investigation is being conducted.

"We have strict quality control processes in place, as well as internal quality assessments, to ensure our products meet the highest standards. We will continue to liaise closely with the customer on this matter."
