Folkestone Invicta boss Neil Cugley is set for a summer battle off the field as he attempts to keep his squad together in the face of serious financial constraints.

Invicta were relegated from the Ryman League, Premier Division this season and chairman Lynn Woods admitted during last week’s general meeting that next season’s budget will be a "miserly" amount.

Cugley (pictured) admits that some of his better players are already being targeted.

He said: "Things go on and certain players are being talked about but I expect to be going with a similar side next season.

"There is a bit of interest in our players, especially the defenders, as they played so well.

"It wasn’t long ago that we were almost out of business and we are still getting over that.

"It just shows what an amazing achievement it was the year before to get promoted. It’s something that probably won’t be achieved again.

"We’ll just get on with it, that’s what we do at Folkestone. You can either do that or walk away.

"There will be teams like Bognor and Maidstone next season who will be able to pay more money but then some who won’t be able to pay as much, so we are fighting on a more level playing field now."
