H&M offers no comment on potential closure of Ashford store in County Square shopping centre

H&M says it has no comment to make on rumours its two-storey shop in Ashford is going to close.

The Swedish fashion retailer opened in the County Square shopping centre in 2008 as part of the mall's multi-million pound extension.

But speculation suggests bosses are not planning to renew their lease on the unit, which overlooks the town's abandoned Debenhams.

A 'final sale' sign has been put up in the front window and on racks around the store, with a 70% discount offered on some items.

When approached by KentOnline, a spokesman said "we have no comment to make regarding H&M Ashford at this time".

"H&M Ashford remains incredibly important to us and our loyal customers there," they added.

A spokesman for County Square issued a similar statement, saying they are "unable to comment at this time".

Last year, H&M revealed plans to shut more than 200 stores, but figures released last week showed the company enjoyed a large increase in profit in 2021.

The future of County Square as a whole remains unclear after the site was put on the market for £13.5m last year.
