Ashford: Plans for Kings Avenue flats rejected by Ashford Borough Council

Plans to build seven apartments near Ashford town centre have been rejected by councillors.

Members of Ashford Borough Council’s planning committee unanimously rejected the scheme for the Kings Avenue site, which sits on the junction with Sackville Crescent.

The proposals included three separate buildings, providing a total of seven two-bedroom apartments.

Cllr Bernard Heyes (Con) said: “The density of the proposed development on this relatively small piece of land would be highly detrimental to the amenity of the adjoining properties.

“The proposed two blocks of two and three-storey flats at the back of the site is excessive and out-of-keeping with the existing dwellings in the locality, which is totally unacceptable.”

Concerns were also raised by Kent Fire and Rescue Service officials about the proposed access road.

Cllr Jim Wedgbury (Con) added: “I work for Tesco doing home delivery – I could not get my home delivery vehicle down the access road because it’s too narrow.”
