Peacocks in Ashford’s County Square shopping centre shuts due to electrical work

A Peacocks store inside a closure-hit shopping centre has shut until further notice while “essential works” are carried out.

The unit in Ashford’s County Square is currently closed after “electrical works in need of repairs” were identified.

It is not clear when the two-storey shop will reopen, but staff say it will be back in business as soon as possible.

A sign in the window states: “This store will be closed for essential works, but will be back open as soon as we can.

“Thank you for your understanding.”

A spokesman from County Square said the issues were identified during electrical tests.

They added: “We have been asking all tenants for their electrical tests and fire safety documentation over a period of time.

“As part of the usual testing and certification, which Peacocks is responsible for, they have identified some electrical works that need repair.”

Meanwhile, Select and The Body Shop are the latest retailers to close their doors for good at the shopping centre.

Closing down signs appeared in the windows of women's fashion store Select earlier this month.

Now boxes are piled high and the shutters are down as the store has permanently closed.

Last week The Body Shop also closed after the firm fell into administration.

The Ashford store was one of seven to close across the UK.

Administrators said that the brand's current portfolio is no longer viable after "years of unprofitability".

The other Body Shop store at Ashford Designer Outlet remains open as usual.

Peacocks has been approached for further comment.
