A petrol station has reopened after it was struck by lightning.

The pumps at Sainsbury's Bybrook, in Simone Weil Avenue, were coned off yesterday but the station reopened today.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: "We closed it at 6pm last night as a precaution and we apologise for any inconvenience caused."

The spokesman said a floodlight at the forecourt was struck by lightning and damaged some electrical equipment at the station.

No staff or customers were affected.

Over the weekend, a number of buildings in the county were hit by lightning, including a house in Kingsnorth.

Firefighters were called to the home in Manor House Drive just before midnight on Saturday.

Crews made sure there were no signs of fire and helped to make the scene safe but the strike caused a hole in the roof.
