Rape victim 'lost the will to live'

A DOG walker said to have become Antoni Imiela's fifth rape victim described how she thought she would be physically sick as she was groped.

The woman said she then realised she going to be raped and told the jury at Maidstone Crown Court she "lost the will to live".

Imiela, 49, of Heathside, Appledore, near Ashford, is accused of grabbing the then 52-year-old woman as she walked on Wimbledon Common, South London, on August 6, 2002.

Mr Imiela was the man that held her at knifepoint, slashed at her trousers and raped her in a terrifying and prolonged attack, the prosecution allege.

The woman, shielded from her alleged attacker by a blue screen across the dock, told how she was frog-marched by her attacker who led her with a knife at her throat in to undergrowth.

He said to her: "If anyone sees us they will think we are lovers and we've just had a tiff."

She told the court: "All the time I was aware that in one second he could press the in my neck. He seemed to enjoy it. He seemed terribly relaxed."

The woman broke down as she described how her attacker groped her and commented on her body. Wiping away tears she said: "I thought I was going to be physically sick."

She tried to struggle free and managed to escape his grasp for a few seconds, but the man caught up with her and threw her to the ground. Her dogs began barking and the attacker threatened: "Shut those dogs up or I will kill them."

The man then stripped her, slashing at her trousers with the knife and pulling her top over her face and restricting the movement of her arms. He then raped her.

"I had lost the will to live at this point," she said. "He was yelling at me 'relax', 'relax'. It seemed to go on forever."

When he had finished his attack he used her bra to tie up her feet, before searching through her bag, asking for money and her car keys. The attacker found her mobile phone and house keys and threw them further into the undergrowth before fleeing.

The woman put her clothes back on and raised the alarm with the help of a passer-by.

She described her attacker as tanned, aged in his 30s or 40s, around 5ft 7ins tall, stocky, with spiky, silvery hair. He had rough skin and spoke with a Geordie accent.

Earlier the jury heard from a woman who was followed by a man in a dark-coloured car as she made her way to work at 6am in Twickenham on July 31.

The driver flashed his lights at her and pursued her for some time, passing her at least five times, she said.

The number plate of the car she described to police matched Antoni Imiela's M-reg, dark-blue Citroen Xantia.

The woman managed to run for help at a nearby petrol station and the car drove off.

She told the court it left her hysterical.

Mr Imiela, a railway maintenance worker, denies nine charges of rape, one of attempted rape, indecent assault and kidnap between November 2001 and November 2002.

His first attack is said to have been the rape of a 10-year-old girl on the Stanhope Estate, Ashford.

The trial continues.
