Fire crews tackle house fire in Downs Way, Charing, near Ashford

The roof of a house has collapsed after a blaze started in an upstairs bedroom.

Five fire engines and a height vehicle were sent to the scene of the fire in Downs Way, Charing, near Ashford.

Firefighters worked hard to tackle the flames in difficult weather conditions.

One woman, aged in her 40s, has been treated for smoke inhalation by paramedics. Everyone else living in the property has been accounted for, fire crews confirmed.

A spokesman added: "Five fire engines and a height vehicle were initially sent to the incident in Downs Way to tackle the blaze.

"It's believed the fire started in one of the upstairs bedrooms of the two storey home and spread to the roof, which has collapsed."

An engineer from UK Power Networks is also at the scene and a building surveyor is expected to attend.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
