Suspected illegal immigrants spotted getting out of lorry near M20 in Ashford

A group of suspected illegal immigrants have been spotted getting out of a lorry near a busy motorway.

One witness called police after he noticed the three or four men jumping out of the vehicle near junction 9 of the M20.

Steve Salter, a local historian, said: "One man was standing behind the lorry and two others were getting out.

"They were passing a big white hessian type bag out of the lorry, which must have had their belongings in.

"The lorry was this dirty white artic with no sign-writing on the side and it had obviously parked up under the trees to try and obscure what was happening.

"There were three of four of them and they were obviously of foreign descent."

A spokesman for Kent Police confirmed officers had been called to the scene but said no one had been arrested or detained.

He said: "We received a call at 2.33pm on Saturday to reports of people climbing out of a lorry on the hard shoulder of the M20 near junction 9.

"Officers searched the area but did not see anything suspicious."
