Teen stabbed three times by Barry Rossiter after he was attacked by five partygoers in Ashford

A teenager was stabbed three times at a birthday bash after he was attacked by five partygoers, a jury has decided.

The 17-year-old had gone to the get-together in Oaktree Road in Ashford in September but was then set upon by the group.

The prosecution revealed how the victim was then ordered outside where he was stabbed with a knife by one of the five youngsters.

The 11-man-one-woman jury at Canterbury Crown Court found Barry Rossiter, 18, of Nickley Wood, Shadoxhurst, guilty of wounding the teenager with intent and also assault.

He was remanded in custody until next month and told he faces a jail sentence.

Two 17-year-olds from Ashford and Willesborough, Charlie Leeming, 19, of Beaver Lane, and Sam Smith, 19, of Leaveland Close, both Ashford, were given bail pending probation reports after being convicted of assault.

All five had denied the charges but none went into the witness box to give evidence in their own defence.

Prosecutor Paul Valder told the jury: “During the evening the defendants arrived and Rossiter then began to make a nuisance of himself bending girls over and annoying them.

“The victim stuck with his group of friends and enjoyed himself drinking and dancing.”

The prosecutor told how Rossiter then went up to the victim, telling him: “Don’t start jumping around me. I’ll fold you like a deckchair.”

But the teenager continued to dance but kept his distance as he didn’t want any trouble, he added.

Mr Valder said that as he was leaving the party he was ordered outside to where one of the 17-year-olds was waiting.

He said: “The teenager walked through to the living room, where Smith blocked his path and told him to get outside.

"Smith had his arms crossed and keeping them crossed pushed him back."

Outside the house, Rossiter attacked the victim before the others joined in and Smith kneed him in the face.

Mr Valder said the victim, who was bleeding, then jumped a fence in an effort to escape.

“As he did so, Leeming punched him in the face and Rossiter then grabbed him and stabbed him three times – twice in the left side of the back and once around the left elbow.”

The victim was taken to the William Harvey hospital and found to have a 4cm stab wound to the left side of the back.
