Firefighters rescue teenager stuck in mud in Victoria Park, Ashford

Firefighters rescued a 15-year-old girl who was stuck in some mud up to her waist.

The teenager had made an 'error of judgement' when entering the mud near the river in Victoria Park, Ashford, yesterday afternoon.

After around 20 minutes, her friend called the fire services around 2pm for help when she realised she could not get out on her own.

Emergency crews were sent to the popular park, including an ambulance, one pump and a water safety unit.

Luckily the girl wasn't injured in the ordeal and appeared to be in good spirits.

Watch manager Ali Gilfillan said: "Crews used a latter to bridge across the mud, then a hose reel to disturb the mud and then pulled her out.

"The ambulance offered her precautionary checks but she was alright, she was in good spirits when we got her out of the soggy mud."

The rescue mission lasted around an hour.
