Willesborough Junior School pupils have received a heartwarming letter from their head teacher telling them they are all 'special and unique' regardless of their test results.

Jennie King sent the note to the entire year group ahead of their SATs, for maths, reading, spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Year 6 pupils across the country will sit the exams this summer, which many critics have said put youngsters under too much pressure.

The letter said: "The SATs do not assess all of what makes you special and unique.

"The people who create these tests and score them do not know each of you the way that we do and certainly not in the way your families do."

The positive letter has been branded by some mums as a "fantastic example of great teaching."

Mrs King assured children that their language or dance skills are important and their interests and characteristics make them special.

The letter goes on to say: "They do not know that you are kind, trustworthy and thoughtful and that every day you try to be your best.

"The levels you will get from these tests will tell you something, but they will not everything. There are many ways of being smart."

The note ends with an Aristotle quote: "Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all."

It is signed off with the message "Sleep, rest and believe! Good luck."
