More roadworks to begin in Ashford on Drovers Roundabout

Parts of a busy roundabout are set to be closed off for a week as a town braces itself for a triple whammy of major roadworks.

Drovers Roundabout in Ashford will see lane closures for six days so that drainage work can take place.

Kent County Council has confirmed the work will begin on Monday, September 19 – despite it being a bank holiday for the Queen's funeral – and go on until Saturday, September 24.

It will see lane closures in place on the busy roundabout, near The Range.

Long-suffering motorists in Ashford have already been enduring chaos on the roads caused by works across the town.

Today, drivers in Kennington Road had to abandon their cars and walk the rest of their journeys because of an unexpected road closure coming into force because of huge voids.

Work has been ongoing in the road near the William Harvey Hospital for almost two months, with temporary traffic lights being installed.

Meanwhile, continuing work to replace the Orbital Park roundabout on the A2070 dual carriageway is set to drag on until Christmas, leaving drivers furious.

The work, which has been ongoing since May, has seen the roundabout removed to make way for planned traffic lights.

The original completion date for the project of next month has been pushed back to December because of Operation Brock and issues at the Port of Dover causing delays.
