Two men charged after cash machine damaged in Co-op on Faversham Road, Ashford

Two men have been charged in connection with a cash machine raid which prompted the bomb squad to be called in.

It follows the theft of money from an ATM situated at the Co-op in Faversham Road, Kennington, during the early hours of Thursday.

Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate have charged Victor Coseru, 27, of Totesti, Romania, and Gica-fanica Radu, 30 of no fixed address, with burglary.

They remain in custody and will appear at Canterbury Magistrates Court today.

Four other men who were arrested in Ashford on Thursday have been released pending further enquiries.

It is believed explosives were used to get to the ATM and the bomb disposal team was called in to make the scene safe.

The store had stayed closed due to damage sustained during the raid this week, but staff confirmed this morning that the business resumed trading at 7am this morning. The shutters remain down, but trading hours are back to normal from 7am to 10pm every day.
