Fire crews had to use the The Leas lift to extinguish a fire in Folkestone after the undergrowth caught alight

Firefighters in Folkestone had to travel on The Leas lift this afternoon to extinguish a fire that had started in the bushes next to the elevators.

One appliance from Folkestone was called out to The Leas at 3pm today to a report that the undergrowth behind the ticket office of the lift had caught alight.

However the only way for the fire fighters to gain access to the fire was to hop on The Leas lift and point the hose out of the window to put the fire out.

Kent fire and rescue have confirmed that the fire has now safely been extinguished.

No damage has been reported to the famous lifts, which are more than 100 years old.
