Van driver dies after blaze

A man has died after his white van went up in flames in Bethersden yesterday.

The 63-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene after his van caught fire in a lay-by on Pot Kiln Lane.

Police were called shortly after 11.10am to reports of the vehicle in flames. It is understood that it was not involved in a crash.

The man is said to not come from Kent and police are awaiting a formal identification of the body.

Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with this and investigations are under way to establish the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Pock Hill Lane and the end of Bull Lane where reopened shortly after 4pm following five hours of road closures.
