Shocking bodycam footage shows Sean Higgins trying to stab police officer in Ashford

Shocking bodycam footage has been released showing the terrifying moment a police officer is nearly stabbed.

Sean Higgins, of Singleton, near Ashford, made numerous attempts to stab PC Daniel Stride when the officer responded to an emergency call-out from the man.

Higgins was jailed for nine years following a Maidstone Crown Court appearance last week, with an additional three years on licence after being deemed a danger to society by Judge Philip Statman.

PC Stride and another colleague arrived at the house after the 40-year-old - who had taken cocaine - dialled 999 to report someone in his back garden.

When a sweep of the property turned up nothing, Mr Higgins launched the attack on the policeman.

The incident lasted roughly two minutes, with a number of attempted thrusts of the knife.

The assailant was eventually overpowered, with PC Stride's stab-vest allegedly saving his life and causing the only injury to be what the officer called "a paper-cut" on his hand.
