Officers say they entered the premises at about 2.20am by smashing their way through a door.

Police arrived at the scene and searched the area but there have been no arrests at this stage.

Devastated manager Jay Karthik – who has run the store for three-and-a-half years – told KentOnline the business was open after yesterday's raid.

It is believed Mr Karthik and his family were asleep upstairs when the burglars entered the building.

But this is not the first time the store has been targeted.

It suffered extensive damage after a 4x4 was reversed into the building multiple times last year in an attempt to pull out the ATM.

The Cherokee Jeep then left the scene along Church Hill and was later found on fire in Harbourne Lane.

The thieves did not get away with the cash machine but it caused extensive damage to the building.
