Woman arrested in Ashford’s Lower High Street after clothes stolen from Sports Direct

A suspected shoplifter has been arrested after clothes were stolen from a town centre Sports Direct store.

Two police cars and a van were called to Ashford town centre at about 4.45pm yesterday following reports of a disturbance in the Lower High Street.

A 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of theft and items of clothing stolen from Sports Direct were seized as part of an ongoing investigation.

A 41-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

A crowd gathered in the Lower High Street outside McDonald’s as the arrests were made.

Both women remain in custody while inquiries continue.
