Woman remains in serious condition after A20 crash in Charing

A woman remains in a serious condition today after she was hit by a car.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the incident last night involving a blue Vauxhall Astra on the A20 in Charing, Ashford.

It happened around 5.30pm and the car was travelling in the direction of Maidstone.

A woman, thought to be from Charing, aged in her 60s, was rushed to a London hospital with injuries described as serious by the police.

A police statement released this afternoon said: "The road was closed until shortly before 10pm to allow for investigation."

Queues of traffic were diverted along the High Street.

The statement continued: "Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or either the vehicle or the pedestrian in the lead up to the collision to make contact."
