Ashford fail to take advantage

Ashford Rugby Club produced a poor performance on Saturday when they were beaten 24-22 at Sheppey, who are second from bottom of Kent 1.

Ashford paid the price for not capitalising sufficiently in the first half, when they had the slope and strong wind in their favour.

They built a 17-5 lead by the break through tries by Dan Brown and Steve Manktelow, both converted by JJ Murray who also added a penalty.

But Sheppey were camped in the Ashford half for most of the second period, and although John Norman's side defended bravely before scoring a late unconverted try through Owen Roberts, it wasn't enough to save them from defeat.
