Pollock last won the title before the Covid pandemic, while it was a first appearance at the tournament for the Clarks.

There were also notable bouts for Tom Fox, Josh Varrier Smith, Ethan Miller, Tia Mayer, Matt McDonagh and Lilli Goucher, all showing great spirit and impressing others.

The British Open performances completed a good year for the club who have been training at the Stour Centre since 1974, making them one of the oldest in the county.

Numbers have grown this year across both the karate and kickboxing arms under the guidance of 6th Dan Shihan Alan Miller.

Senior members have taken part in KJK Association grading.

After a gruelling grading, finishing with 40 fights, Jason Hampton, Paige Taylor and Ellie Miller are new 2nd Dan black belts. It’s a fine achievement for the trio and the culmination of months of training.

The club are running a beginners course in January, with more information, including training times, available on their Instagram and Facebook pages and at ashfordkaratejutsukai.com
