THERE were two special runs to light up the competitive Quest 10k road race at Ashford on Sunday.

Brighton Phoenix runner Tom Naylor powered away from defending champion John Creane, from Hythe, to win the men's title in a course record time of 31:50 carving 33 seconds of Creane's record set last year.

The remarkable Charlotte Dale from Invicta East Kent retained her women's crown in commanding style. She was beaten by only the top six men in the field.

She ended up missing the £50 bonus for the ladies' record by just six seconds after clocking 33:37.

Creane also was inside his old record set last year by 17 seconds but he just could not hold the Brighton man in the cold, but near perfect running conditions.

Dale also won the Cliff Temple Memorial Trophy for the best performance by a Kent based runner.
