Hythe Town boss Scott Porter says he is encouraged with the club’s start to the new season, ahead of bank holiday weekend matches against Hastings United and Folkestone Invicta.

However, Porter did admit to some frustration by only getting a point against Whitstable in Tuesday’s Ryman League, Division 1 South home draw.

Michael Yianni put Hythe ahead in the first minute – his second goal in two matches – before Mo Takaloo brought the Oysterman level on the half-hour.

Porter said: “Nicky Southall’s tactics were a compliment to us and I told my boys that after the game. Whitstable man-marked Dave Cook, played one-up front, and slowed the game down. I think they can upset a few teams this season.”

Hythe are at home to Hastings on Saturday and travel to Folkestone on Monday
Porter added: “It is an encouraging start and we are doing all right. I am still looking at a few options about players who might be available, but have got a few coming back from injury.

One early season boost for Porter has been the form of Yianni, now back in a midfield
role.

Porter said “He is doing well playing just behind Shaun Welford, is full of energy and getting his rewards.”

Both holiday games kick off at 3pm.
