MOST of the county’s top athletes converge on Ashford this weekend for the county championships being staged again at the Julie Rose Stadium.

There will be two days of top class action in all the athletic disciplines.

Ashford Scottish international Gary Carr will be hoping to hit gold in the explosive sprint events with the 100m one of the events that gets under way from the morning start on Saturday with a strong entry in the men’s and women’s senior events.

Also in action will be the county’s best in the Under-21, Under-17, Under-15 and veteran steeplechase and walks.

The senior women get under way with the 200m, 800 and 400m hurdles as well as field events followed by the 100m, 400m, 1500m, 5000m, 100m hurdles on the Sunday.

The Sunday features the men’s 200m, 800m, 5,000m as well as high jump, triple jump, hammer and javelin.

Competition is through from 10am to 6pm and all spectators are welcome.
