London Fire Brigade responded to the 999 call with about 25 firefighters in four fire engines and a command unit.

Crews used two hose reels to extinguish the flames.

A spokesman said: "There was a lot of smoke, but the seat of the fire was actually quite a small area in the rear stockroom."

No other shops were affected and the shopping centre in Erith High Street opened as normal - but Subway remains closed.

The fire is initially believed to have been the result of an electrical fault, although its cause will be more thoroughly investigated.

No one was injured in the incident.
