Your Home Made Perfect designer Laura Jane Clark to quit Twitter after 'racist comments' during new BBC show featuring Bromley couple

An architect on hit interior design programme Your Home Made Perfect says she's quitting Twitter after racist comments were posted during the show's return to screens last night.

Laura Jane Clark, who has featured in all three series of the popular BBC show, released a statement this morning after Bromley couple Shelley and Steve's home was given a stunning transformation.

The popular architect said: "Thank you for all the wonderful comments and lively debate about the designs on #YourHomeMadePerfect. I'm so proud of the show.

"However, I find the small number of racist comments utterly despicable and wholly unacceptable so I am therefore leaving Twitter."

Many people responded urging her not to leave, to call-out racism and block offending users.

Stewart Thompson wrote: "What is wrong with people?! We couldn’t choose between your designs last night, and bringing Julian and the other architects looks like it’s going to bringing a new feel to the show. Don’t let them win, block, move on and stay here."

Another fan wrote: "Seriously!? Report the fools and stand your ground. We’d rather hear you than them."

Vicki Williams said: "So glad you're back on tv, loved both designs, certainly makes me think more about my space & how best to utilise it.

"As for the comments you saw, the minority as always ruin it for the many, imagine knowing them in real life, they just be horrid individuals."

Shelley and Steve's three-bedroom semi-detached home in Bromley was given the VR treatment by Laura Jane and new architect Julian Mcintosh as they battled it out to win the commission to redesign the dingy and cramped home for the couple and their two sons on a £105,000 budget.

The first design presented was by Laura Jane which left Shelley in tears as the whole ground floor was opened up and a new glazed 'megawedge' extension flooding the home with light and providing their youngest son a new room on the top floor.

The couple were bowled over by the design, which also featured a hidden larder behind the open plan kitchen and entertaining space as the couple said it fulfilled their brief "and more".

Julian's design opened up their home with a large double floor extension at the back of the house incorporating a new master en-suite bedroom and balcony overlooking a double height dining space with 5m high window.

It also gave them a brand new family bathroom and larger bedroom for their youngest son.

The couple said both designs gave them everything they wanted by providing huge entertaining space downstairs.

But it was Julian's double height and master bedroom which won the day – even though the remodelling ended up costing them £150,000.

Fans were delighted to see the return of the programme hosted by Angela Scanlon – which airs at 8pm Mondays on BBC Two and on iPlayer.

Viewers were shocked to see the shake-up to the show with five new designers coming on board and Irishman Robert Jamison – famous for his bench seating, wood burners and more left-field design concepts – not returning for the third series.
