West Indies to play First-Class Counties Select XI at Beckenham from July 3-6 ahead of Lord’s Test match against England

Kent will host the touring West Indies Test team for a warm-up game in July.

The tourists will play against a First-Class Counties Select XI at Beckenham in a four-day game from Wednesday, July 3 to Saturday, July 6.

The match will be the build-up for the start of a three-game Test Series between England and West Indies, which gets under way at Lord’s on July 10.

Of course, it’s not the first time that the West Indies have played at Beckenham. A full-strength side beat Kent in a one-day game back in 2004 by 91 runs.

After Chris Gayle was out to Kent’s Martin Saggers for a second-ball duck, half-centuries from Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan and captain Brian Lara saw West Indies reach 274-8.

Saggers took 5-51 in nine overs before, in reply, Ed Smith top-scored with 54 for Kent, who were 183 all out as Jermaine Lawson took 4-59.

Tickets for each day of the match this summer are now on sale, priced at £16 for adults, £7 for 14 to 17-year-olds and £5 for 5 to 13-year-olds, with under-5s free while entry is also free to Kent members.

Kent cricket’s community team, working in partnership with the ACE Programme and Cricket4London, will be running a variety of activities around the ground during the match, including schools’ day outs and a community day with local cricket clubs and community groups.
