Homes across Broad Oak were plunged into darkness after power cuts on Monday night.

Almost 300 people living in the Mayton Lane area lost supplies just before 9pm after a fault on a high-voltage underground electricity cable.

Engineers from UK Power Networks managed to restore supplies to the majority of customers within the hour and to a further 59 in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Eight customers were placed on to an emergency generator supply around 4am. Engineers were continuing to work through the morning to restore those customers to the permanent network.

UK Power Networks spokesman James Barber said: "We appreciate how difficult it can be to lose power and would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by this incident."
