Holidaymakers were evacuated from their caravans when armed police swooped on a park in Whitstable on Saturday night.

Officers, including a dog handler and the Kent police helicopter, were called in after a routine visit to the Seaview Holiday Park at Swalecliffe discovered a man wanted in connection with burglary.

He fled the scene and was pursued and both he and another man were later arrested in connection with car key burglaries.

Bob Kemp, who manages the Seaview Park, said: "We had officers here from late afternoon right through to the early hours of the morning.

"They were obviously looking for someone and about a dozen families had to leave their caravans around the one they were focusing on during the operation.

"It was inconvenient for our visitors but I think they were interested to see what was going on too.

"But the park was back to normal on Sunday morning."

Kent police spokesman Karen Noble said two men were taken into police custody for questioning on Sunday morning.
